We are Thierry Janots (1961), French, and Richard Bos (1967), Dutch, two excellent winemakers with a passion for the famous Burgundy wines from the Côte d'Or. We strive for natural wines, "vin de nature" of the highest quality, brilliantly expressing the terroir. We avoid additives and superfluous manipulations.
In 2005 we founded our own winery. We've known each other since we met in 1996 at the wine school, the Lyceé Viticole, in Beaune. Thierry has worked for numerous famous wineries, like Joseph Drouhin, Louis Latour and Domaine des Comtes Lafon. Richard worked in the Netherlands in gastronomy. Almost ten years after his education in Beaune, he followed his heart and went back to Burgundy. In 2005 we've decided to join forces and founded JanotsBos. We make our own wines, because that's the only way we can guarantee the quality our customers are demanding. Although we are both skilled winemakers, Thierry is focussing on the technical aspects, the wine making, whereas Richard is focussing on the marketing and commercial activities. With our two Dutch partners Phillis and Paul Berens, we are further developing our winery.
At the moment, our fifth vintage, 2009, is in our new cellar. We will bring no less than eleven appellations 2009 on the market. Now available is our vintage 2008 with ten different appellations! All of them made by us with great care into excellent Burgundy wines. Time flies when you're having fun.
Our first objective is quality. We take even the smallest details into account to further improve the quality. The Côte d'Or is special. It's one of the best areas worldwide to produce Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. All the necessary conditons are present, but it's upto us, the winemakers, to make it happen. That's what we do. With our experience and our focus on quality we can give you a taste of what makes the Côte d'Or unique: top quality wines!
Our wines are from the Côte de Beaune, which together with the Côte de Nuits makes up the famous Côte d’Or in France. The Côte d’Or is a 30 mile long range of hills, starting south of Dijon. The best vineyards are all on this range in a narrow strip that varies between a thousand feet wide upto at most a few miles. The complex geological structure of the Côte de Beaune offers a wide range of different soil structures, which are reflected in the wines. Most vineyards face south-east and are protected by the hills from rain and wind from the west. A skilled winemaker explores this combination of soil and specific micro climat of the vineyard to make the famous and outstanding Burgundy wines, unique in the world. The area around Meursault, where our winery is located, with famous names like Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, is renowned for its magnificent white wines from the Chardonnay grape.
We at JanotsBos make real terroir wines, in which we express the ensemble of soil and climat optimally. Our wines are matured in French oak. We make sure the oak adds to the structure and finesse of the wine. The oak will however never dominate the wine, but will always be integrated subtly and delicately. We use French oak, both Allier and Vosges, with a light toasting. Dependent on the appellation we determine the type we are using. You'll find our style of wine making in all our wines. We strive for natural wines, "vin de nature" of the highest quality by avoiding additives and superfluous manipulations. It's a pure style, focussing on expressing the terroir. Each and every appellation we produce is different from the others. But the same style is always present. With our wines you'll be able to clearly distinguish for example a Meursault from a Saint-Aubin. This is Côte d'Or as it should be! Experience it.
