The flowering went will in 2014. Spring was warm and dry, Summer was wet and somewhat cold. Late June Meursault and the surrounding village was hit by hail. In July we had a lot of rain. Despite all this the harvest was relatively early. We started September 13 with Bourgogne Rouge. The wet conditions resulted to mildew and mould. Some winegrowers decided to harvest even earlier to avoid the mould and mildew. The penalty is of course less sugar and less ripeness. We didn't do that. Instead we decided to put even more effort in selecting the grapes. Our grapes had enough sugar (be it a little less than normal) and more importantly, they were ripe, necessary to produce high quality wines. Our 2014 are again high quality. We're not pleased with the quantity: in some cases the hail has destroyed almost complete vineyards, resulting in only 20% of the normal volume.
For our customers we have made sure our typical JanotsBos style is unmistakably present in our wines: pure, expressing the terroir, complex and just the right amount of oak to support the wine. Vintage 2014 is a little lower in alcohol, but with good ripeness. For the gastronomy these wines will again be much appreciated by guests looking for great Burgundy wines with their dishes.
